TS: Khadr To Serve Eight Years
A military jury sentenced Omar Khadr to 40 years behind bars Sunday,
unaware that a plea deal had already capped the Toronto-born detainee's
term to just one more year here before he can return to Canada.
The stiff but merely symbolic sentence ends an eight-year politically charged case that has divided Canadians and marks the first time in modern history that someone has been prosecuted for war crimes committed while a juvenile.
