TS: Tough New Measures Target Smuggled Migrants
Migrants entering Canada with the help of human smugglers would be
denied permanent residency and face mandatory jail time and reduced
health coverage under a proposed law to combat human smuggling.
These measures would put Canada's refugee policies more in line with the United States and Australia, but legal experts said they are unlikely to pass the scrutiny of international laws and Canada's own Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
