requested half a million metric tons of rice in food aid from the South
on Wednesday amid signs of improving ties between the rivals and
growing momentum for a resumption of nuclear talks.
The request for food and fertilisier aid was made on the second day of Red Cross talks in the North Korean border town of Kaesong, where the two sides also discussed holding regular exchanges of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War.
