Obama Campaigns For Dems
The campaigning has become fast and furious in the last week before the midterm elections on November 2nd. President Obama has increased his profile as a campaigner as of late, joining former President Bill Clinton who has criss crossed the country to stump for Democrats in an attempt to rally their base and improve their electoral fortunes. To that end, President Obama joined Michael Smerconish on his radio talk show for an interview, just prior to taping an interview with Jon Stewart for tonight's episode of the Daily Show.
Smerconish is known as a moderate and is a registered Independent, although by his own admission, talk radio is a haven for a conservative audience. Either way this is election season and we won't be able to get back to policy debates until it's over, so regardless of the political leanings of the questioner, you're going to expect talking point answers. Which is what happened for the most part.
At this point it's really a fight to see who can get the most people out to vote, but it has been difficult for Democrats to run on their successful legislative session due in large part to an unpleasantly high unemployment rate. President Obama partly blamed the millions of dollars being spent on advertising meant to demonize health-care reform as one of the reasons the majority of Democrats aren't mentioning it during their campaigns.
