President Obama visited Fairfax, Virginia where he met with about 30 people in a backyard town hall style setup.

There he spoke about his confidence in the economy even though there has been slow rate of growth in hiring in the private sector, arguing that there have been 7 straight quarters of improvement.  However, he began by going over the pitfalls and accomplishments his administration has weathered and accomplished over the past 20 months always with a sympathetic eye towards the fact that growth has been slow.  He used questions about jobs to highlight pieces of legislation being held up in the Senate like a $50 billion small business bill designed to further incentivize banks to begin handing out loans to small businesses.

Obviously this was a political event, but it highlights how the parties are trying to differentiate themselves from one another.  Developing an effective national narrative and trying to pump up voter enthusiasm will be key to the upcoming elections.
