President Obama appeared on Good Morning America this morning and was asked about the growing controversy surrounding a Florida Pastor and his small church which are planning on holding a burn the Qur'an day.

The President referred to the event as a stunt saying:

"And as a very practical matter, as commander of chief of the Armed Forces of the United States I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women in uniform who are in Iraq, who are in Afghanistan."

The greatest threat of unrest would be in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the very places the United States and its NATO allies are trying to build partnerships in an attempt to secure stability.  But, he went on to suggest that burning the book would undoubtedly be used as a recruiting tool around the world, possibly inciting people to attempt suicide attacks in Europe and inside the United States.  That being said, the President did acknowledge that there were no laws preventing the Pastor and his congregation from burning the book, but appealed to his sensibilities to reconsider due to the inevitable fallout.

In any event, let's hope that this misguided Pastor reconsiders so that we can focus on peace and not more bloodshed.
