Rep. Joe Barton Apologizes to BP
While sitting here watching the opening statements of the highly anticipated Congressional hearings with BP CEO Tony Hayward testifying, I was shocked to hear Texas Representative Joe Barton actually apologize to BP.
He began plodding through his prepared remarks about duel tracks and the righteousness of the Department of Justice's investigation into possible criminal charges for BP and other parties, but ended with an apology. An apology to BP for being shaken down, as he put it, by the President to set up the $20 billion liability fund. You heard that right. With current law capping liability at only $75 million and the recent email evidence proving negligence, Rep. Joe Barton seems to think that BP shouldn't be responsible for liabilities above the current cap.
I didn't think I could be shocked anymore, but this did it.
