General David Petraeus, the architect of the Iraq surge and former head of USCENTCOM was confirmed 99 to 0 by the full Senate as the replacement for disgraced General Stanley McChrystal. 

General Petraeus was also the author of the counter insurgency handbook implemented by General McChrystal in Afghanistan which has been successful in eliminating high value Taliban and Al' Queada targets, although is frustrating some American troops on the ground.  Some troops feel that the rules of engagement are tying their hands, and the new commanded said in his opening statement that he would be reviewing the rules.

He should be in Afghanistan within a couple of days.
