G&M: MPs Get Extension On Talks Over Detainee Documents
With the threat of an election hanging
over their heads, government and opposition MPs secured a last-minute
extension to their negotiations over Afghan detainee documents that will
stretch the talks until no later than 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The extension request came at the 11th hour Tuesday, as MPs came up against their original deadline set two weeks ago in a historic ruling by House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken. The ruling sought to end a long-running standoff between the government and the opposition over access to documents that are not redacted.
