Eighteen lawyers entangled in an alleged mortgage fraud scheme were accused in court by the Bank of Montreal of failing to catch repeated discrepancies in property documents.

The bank's lawyer, Munaf Mohamed, told the Court of Queen's Bench in Calgary on Friday that lawyers named in the complicated lawsuit, including a federal Conservative MP, are accused of committing negligence, not perpetrating the alleged fraud.
