You might not realize it, but when different words are used to describe the same thing, it makes people react differently. In this case, the word reconciliation, as used to define a process by which the majority in the Senate can pass legislation pertaining to budget matters with a simple majority, sounds like something reasonable. However, when you refer to it as say, the nuclear option, it tends to conjure slightly more negative feelings.
