Republican opposition to the Department of Justice approving a Miranda warning to the attempted Christmas Day bomber, Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, will continue to be an issue during this election year for Congressional races. 

Susan Collins (R-Maine), has been vocal recently about the administration treating the alleged bomber under the American justice system and not treating him like a prisoner of war.  This is an ongoing meme from the GOP whereby they have been trying to discredit the same method the Bush administration used to handle other terrorists who were arrested on American soil, where they were arrested and tried successfully under civilian laws. 

Senator Collins has said that the DoJ didn't consult other intelligence agencies when it made the decision to Mirandize the suspect, but White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, released a memo indicating a number of individuals from several agencies who were involved with the decision.  Similarly, Eric Holder released a memo, as well as the heads of other agencies, directly refuting Senator Coillins' supposition.
