UPDATE: President Obama made some more in depth comments about his meeting with Congressional leaders from both parties, and took a few of questions from the press. Among the items discussed at the meeting, he said that they were able to make good headway on a jobs bill to help spur job growth and combat high unemployment rates.
The President also made a note of an insurance company in California called Anthem Insurance who has announced a 39% increase to premium rates on individual health insurance holders as an example of how dire the situation is for Washington to get healthcare done. He rejected the Republican notion to scrap the current health bills completely before the debate on February 25th and reiterated his offer to discuss any ideas that can make their proposals better. President Obama also urged a debate on the facts and not the rhetoric when the televised meeting occurs on February 25th, with no grandstanding, or drama.
The question and answer covered a lot of ground, including green energy technology, clean coal technology, small business loans, healthcare, even sanctions against Iran, and some other items. Everyone in the press room moaned when the President called on him for a question, but the question about Iran confirms what was being speculated about recently. The President made it clear that the U.S. and the international community are working quickly to add new sanctions to Iran for what is becoming clear that they want to develop a nuclear weapon.
