NYT: Obama Acts To Engage G.O.P., Testing Party's Intentions
The past week has shown the Democrats and the President on the offensive, after suffering a drop in the polls and the loss of Martha Coakley to Scott Brown in Massachusetts. On Friday, President Obama attended a Republican Conference and scored big political points while taking questions from Republican Representatives and refuting their talking points.
On Monday, Texas GOP Representative said that he wanted to cut social security for those 55 and under and Democrats are using it as an example of the GOP going to the same old ideas which got the country into the mess it's in now. The President is also, running with the idea of more question and answer sessions with the GOP as well as Democrats, in the hopes that he can further capitalize on his performance last week.
GOP officials are somewhat worried about further public engagements with the President on policy because if they work with Democrats and help pass legislation that's is good for the country, it will give political points to the Democrats.
