Fareed Zakaria Interviews Iranian Foreign Minister

Fareed Zakaria, Editor, Newsweek International...

Fareed Zakaria is perhaps my favourite journalist for his wit, intelligence, his drive to ask the tough questions, and for his potent analysis.  He writes for Newsweek, has written 3 books and edited another, and hosts his own Sunday show on CNN where he scores incredible interviews with major players from all around the world.

This past Sunday, not only did he interview Larry Summers, one of the President's economic advisors, he was able to interview one of Iran's most powerful men, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and confronted him on several issues.

The interview is fascinating in that, Mr. Zakaria confronts the Foreign Minister on the execution of election protesters and the deliberate detention of journalists during the basij crackdown on peaceful protests, including his colleague from Newsweek.  It's clear from the interview that Mr. Mottaki avoids the questions and all around looks silly, but it was interesting to see that, when asked about the protests and the illegitimacy of the Iranian election, that he wanted to continue the interview in English.
