Will You Be Playing Star Trek Online?

Cryptic studios, developers of such online games as City of Heroes/Villains, and Champions Online are set to release their newest game, Star Trek Online.  Fans of the series and films are sure to be in love with this game despite the fact that many if not all  previous Star Trek single player games have received a lukewarm response from consumers and gamers a like.  As an aside, I would like to qualify my position on the game begin a hit with fans of Star Trek.  When I say it will be a hit with fans of the show and movies that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a hit with gamers, as they are two different breeds of person.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a nerd and I like to play computer games whenever I can find the time, especially online games like the most famous of all online games, World of Warcraft (although I don't actually play WoW any longer).

If you're not familiar with online games, they allow you to play the game with other people from around the world all in the same persistent game world.  It's a great way for scattered friends to stay in contact as well as family members, although you might want be surprised and somewhat frightened by how many hours can disappear when you sit down for a gaming session.

Anyway, Star Trek Online is coming out on February 2nd on a bit of an accelerated schedule which means that there are worries about the quality and condition of the game, but it is what it is.  Personally I'll be skipping this title as I'm putting my money on Bioware's upcoming Star Wars online game, as well as the prospect of 38 Studios' as of yet unnamed online project which we think we'll hear more about in the coming year.
