The story has been all over, but I read this article about it. Kind of creepy and cool all at the same time.....

    What I find interesting is the back story to this, if you read True Companions website , what they are really after are truly autonomous humanoid robots that can actually simulate a human friend. Kind of an interesting tie in to this story is Caprica , where you have an avatar on the net duplicating a real person who died. So her Dad invents Cylons to make her real again. Oops, bit of a spoiler there but it's still worth watching, I was pleasantly surprised by the VR aspect, being very interested in the development of true VR technology.

     So how do you finance this kind of tech? The military may be interested in robots but I doubt they want them to think much :) Industry can do job specific non-humanoid robots much cheaper...... So where do you get the money for your dream? Why not sexbots?

     Let us all remember that porn drove the adoption of VHS as a videotape standard, when Beta format was far better quality. Later it drove the early internet and the adoption of DVD's.... Face it, sex will always sell.....

     I actually applaud Douglas Hines for seeing how he can hopefully research his dream. I think he has his sight set a lot further than realistic sexbots.  I could be naive there, but I think his ultimate goal could be world changing. Think Asimov's world of robots, this could be the first step towards that. With CPU's getting smaller, faster and  cheaper.....RAM getting cheaper all the time.....cloud computing...... It's possible now.


     Kind of a different take on  a popular story......
