Reuters: Up To 10 Percent Of Iraqis Disabled By War, Sanctions
The latest estimates of the population of Iraq, after being at war almost constantly since 1977, is around 30 million people, and of those over 2 million people are estimated to be disabled from a combination of sanctions, bombings, and the Iran-Iraq war.
"If you take into account that Iraq has been at war since 1977, the Iran-Iraq war, the American bombings, sanctions, all of which have contributed to more people becoming disabled, 2.7 million or 10 percent of the population is a conservative estimate," Mercy Corps spokeswoman Tiana Tozer said.
