Reuters: Iran Diplomat Quits Over Protests

An Iranian diplomat at the embassy in Oslo, Norway, spoke to local broadcaster NRK and said that he had resigned over the government crackdown on protests over the Christmas holidays in Iran.  "It was the Iranian authorities' treatment of demonstrators during the Christmas week that made me realize I couldn't continue,"NRK quoted Mohammed Reza Heydari as saying.

Protests were sparked when government forces began to assault mourners of the late reformist religious leader Grand Ayatollah Monatzeri, a renewed series of thuggery stemming from the controversial re-election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad back in June 2009.
