NYT: Democrats Push To Salvage A Flailing Candidacy

President Barack Obama had to be called in to stump for Martha Coakley on Sunday in her Massachusetts Senate race against State Senator Scott Brown because she has been steadily falling in the polls.  Now Coakley trails Brown in the latest poll by a margin of 51% to 46%, hobbled by her aloof attitude towards voters and her terribly run campaign.  If she loses the election then the Democrats will lose their 60 seat super majority in the Senate and could see all of their hard work on healthcare reform be undone through a promised filibuster and down vote from Scott Brown.

Mr. Brown actually does want healthcare reform, but he wants to start over from scratch, although the chances of that happening any time soon are close to zero according to historical precedent.  Most political observers are already declaring a win by Brown as a colossal defeat of President Obama's agenda and possibly a reflection of what is to come in November for the 2010 midterms.
