G&M: Jordan Asks Canada To Seize Dead Sea Scrolls
The Dead Sea Scrolls are currently on display at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto until Sunday. Two weeks ago the Canadian chargé d'affaires was summoned in Amman and cited the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict of which both countries signed, and asked Canada to seize the scrolls. The dispute stems from the 6 day war in 1967 when Israel took control of a museum in east Jerusalem away form Jordan and subsequently the Dead Sea Scrolls.
