Despite the fact that previous Liberal governments have exercised their right to shut down independent commissions and watchdogs, Michael Ignatief and his team are proposing new rules in the Liberal platform which will guarantee the independence of watchdogs and commissions in the future.  While the Liberals are focusing on government transparency, the Conservatives and Stephen Harper are turning their focus on promoting the health and well being of women and children in third world countries after suspending Parliament until March 3rd.
