Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be appointing 5 new Senators today which will allow the Conservatives to take control of both the Senate and the House so that they can push through their preferred legislation without having to work with opposition parties.  Mr. Harper has long complained that he couldn't legislate the way he wanted to, even though he was Prime Minister of a minority government and was expected to compromise with opposition parties as that is the nature of minority governments.
