Ban Ki-Moon Speaks About Haiti Earthquake
In a brief statement this morning Ban Ki-Moon, head of the UN, said that after reconnaissance flights over Haiti and its capital Port-au-Prince, it's clear that the capital has been shattered by the earthquake, although the rest of the country remains relatively untouched. Additionally the UN building in the capital has reportedly been destroyed and the head of its operations on the island nation has been killed along with at least 14 other UN officials. He said that communications are still down for the most part and the few photos and videos slowly coming out of the country show a desperate situation.
Because of the situation, the UN is immediately releasing $10 million from its disaster relief fund and is asking for support from all countries capable of helping in what is clearly turning into a humanitarian disaster.
