TS: Peter MacKay, Red Cross Discussed Detainees In 2006

A new report, once again contradicting the denials of Peter MacKay ever reading or hearing anything regarding the possible abuse and torture of Afghan detainees handed over to Afghan intelligence services, has surfaced.  The report says that Peter MacKay, Stockwell Day and Gordon O'Connor, all of whom were senior cabinet ministers at the time, met with the head of the International Red Cross in the fall of 2006 as they, and other organizations like the Canadian International Development Agency, tried to focus the attention of Canadian officials on allegations of abuses in Afghan prisons.

The Conservative government has consistently denied having held any meetings, or received any reports, or warnings regarding the abuse or torture of Aghan detainees.  The Toronto Star is reporting that while the details of the meeting are secret, enough was said on the detainees to generate a report about the issue, although the report is redacted, it does have the title: "Re: meeting with ICRC president re detention issues."
