Three hikers, Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Josh Fattal, 27 from the U.S. who were captured after they crossed into Iranian territory while hiking in the Kurdish region of Northern Iraq and who have been detained for several months, will now be tried on unannounced espionage charges. 

It is generally believed that the Iranian government is positioning itself to negotiate the release of Iranian officials currently held in Iraq and the U.S. in exchange for the hikers release, however it remains to be seen what course the situation will take.
