President Remarks On Northwest 253
President Obama made his first comments on the attempted act of terrorism by 23 year old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who broke contact with his family in Nigeria and claimed to be trained by Al'Qaeda in Yemen where he he went to study and subsequently tried to blow up Northwest flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas. The President said that they took immediate action by notifying all other flights still in the air to take precautions and has subsequently ordered a thorough review of the terror watch list system in an attempt to strengthen it.
The President also added a comment on the current unrest in Iran, condemning the actions of the Iranian government against it's own people and calling for the release of all people unjustly imprisoned. He reiterated the remarks he made in Oslo saying, "it is telling when governments fear the aspirations of their own people more than the power of any other nation."
