President Announces Green Jobs Push

A very up beat President, in his ongoing attempts to attack the slow pace of job growth while the financial sector has seen impressive improvements in its growth, announced a proposed extension of home improvement tax credit of $1500 which would come from an $8 billion portion of stimulus funds.

The President said that the money invested in the clean energy market from the stimulus package is, "on track to double renewable energy production and double our capacity to manufacture clean energy components like wind turbines and solar panels right here in the United States by the year 2012."  Construction and manufacturing jobs were always a priority considering how well they can boost local economies and the hope is that by extending home weatherization tax incentives will help those small businesses and contractors make new hires.  The great thing about this development is that they feed off of each other and become self sustaining even after tax incentives are long gone.

President Obama presented the increased capacity of the American renewable energy market as a direct rebuke of the notion that green investments kill jobs and by assuring people that weatherization can literally pay for itself in energy savings for your typical home consumer.  The president also reminded viewers that climate change is a serious threat and that updating your home would not only help your bottom line, but help make the entire American energy grid more efficient, which helps fight climate change. He said,"our homes and our offices consume almost 40 percent of the energy we use and contribute almost 40 percent of the carbon pollution that we produce... homes built in the first half of the last century can use up to 50 percent more energy than homes built today and because most of our homes and offices aren't energy efficient, most of that energy goes to waste."

This announcement should be good news to people looking for skilled jobs in the construction and manufacturing industry as well as a further boost to the President's green initiative. I can attest from experience that updating your home does indeed translate into savings, and if it means helping
