Head Of Climate Research Team Temporarily Steps Down
Recently, you have have heard of what is being called Climate Gate where hackers stole hundreds of thousands of emails spanning over 13 years from the University of East Angilia's Climate Research Unit. The mish-mash of emails have climate change deniers in a tizzy as they claim that emails contained within the stolen mass finally prove that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by, what can only assume is a grand world wide conspiracy of scientists for whatever reason. Now comes word that the director of the unit, Professor Phil Jones, will be stepping aside temporarily amid the controversy surrounding the stolen emails so that an independent investigation can determine if he did indeed manipulate data. The university released a statement saying, "We will announce details of the Independent Review, including its
terms of reference, timescale and the chair, within days. I am
delighted that Professor Peter Liss, FRS, CBE, will become acting
director."
With the upcoming meeting in Copenhagen to address climate change, some pressure has been put on the University to do some damage control as scepticism has risen of late due to the theft of those emails. What officials want people to know however, is that while the director of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit is now stepping aside amid the controversy of him allegedly manipulating data to encourage a particular view on climate change, the vast body of data is not disputed.
