G&M: Ignatief Finally Gives Up On Election Talk

With the new Canadian budget proposal looming in March from the minority Conservative government Michael Ignatief has given up on trying to bring down the government with an election that Canadians clearly don't want any time soon.  Ignatief earlier this year pushed for a Federal election, but was rebuffed in the polls and now says, "What I've learned from Canadians in 2009 is they didn't want an election, what they want is an alternative to the Harper government."

What the alternative may look like is up for debate at this time, but it is possible that the opposition parties are discussing an alliance much like the one reached in 2008, but fell apart after the Prime Minister prorogued Parliament and Michael Ignatief took leadership of the Liberal Party from Stephan Dion, scrapping the former leader's agreements with the other parties to share power in a minority setting.
