Employment Rises

Stats Canada has released the new jobs report today and surprisingly Canada was able to add 79,000 new jobs in November, bringing the unemployment rate down 0.1 percentage points to 8.5%.  Full time employment increased by 39,000 jobs in November and 40,000 part time jobs, however the majority of new jobs were created in the service sector which are generally lower paying jobs.  The report also reveals that most of the gain in overall employment in November was among women aged 25 to 54 (51,000) and men aged 55 and over (17,000).
